Edition #43: The latest from SiriusXM.
Memorial Day Weekend is here! It brings us a FREE listening event, someone new joining SXM, and plenty of events to check out from.
Friday, May 26th, 2023
Hello everyone! Its time once again for another weekly edition of the SeriousXM newsletter. This is a big one because its Memorial Day Weekend across the country. While its the unofficial start of Summer, the holiday is on Monday and is usually the day to remember our men and women who have sacrificed for their freedom in the ultimate price to pay. This includes all members within the branches of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard).
I will pause here to thank those who’ve made that ultimate sacrifice so that folks like you and I can enjoy the freedoms we have in this country. We do take it for granted most of the time, but we shouldn’t because people had to die just to make sure we have them today, and on Monday, we should remember them.
So its a holiday weekend and outside of remembering our fallen heroes, its also a weekend full of travel, food, and fun.
Without further ado, let’s get to this week’s news.
The Latest News
SiriusXM’s first of two “Listen Free Events” for the year.
This week, I got a mail letter from SiriusXM themselves reminding me that its that time of the year again…
Its one of two of SiriusXM’s Listen Free Events for the year (the other being around the Thanksgiving period). For this first one, it’ll cover Memorial Day (of course) but will only run for a week and a half from Thursday, May 25th - Monday, June 5th. This means that as of this edition, the Listen Free Event is taking place right now.
If you have an inactive SiriusXM car radio, then this is your chance to check it out and see what its all about.
Some of the channels it mentions during this free event include…
The Highway (SXM 56)
The Beatles Channel (SXM 18)
Diplo’s Revolution (SXM 52)
Today Show Radio (SXM 108)
Business Radio (SXM 132)
Triumph (SXM 111)
SiriusXM Progress (SXM 127)
P.O.T.U.S (SXM 124)
SiriusXM Patriot (SXM 125)
FOX News (SXM 114)
CNN (SXM 116)
MSNBC (SXM 118)
SiriusXM NBA Radio (SXM 86)
SiriusXM IndyCar Nation (SXM 160)
Mad Dog Sports Radio (SXM 82)
The mail that I got from SiriusXM also promoted to me The ‘10s Spot (SXM 11), U2 X-Radio (SXM 32), No Shoes Radio (SXM 57), Today Show Radio, and SiriusXM IndyCar Nation.
Now… a good note to remind everyone that not all channels take part. All the XL-designated channels are out, meaning NO Shade 45 (SXM 45), Raw Dog Comedy (SXM 99), Radio Andy (SXM 102), Liquid Metal (SXM 40), etc.
Also, because of bandwidth limitations from satellites up above, some of the channels that I mentioned will also be pre-empted for live sports coverage. Those channels will also include Laugh USA (SXM 98), The Verge (SXM 173), CNBC (SXM 112), Kids Place LIVE (SXM 78), and The Catholic Channel (SXM 129), among others.
This is the full SiriusXM Listen Free Event channel lineup. Check the lineup out as it will show you in full which ones are available and which ones aren’t. Also, the lineup is subject to change during the event so check back often. Again, this is on inactive car radios, meaning there’s no free two-week listening period on streaming platforms.
Brady joins The Pulse
RadioInsight reported this week that former 92.3 WNYL New York afternoon host Joe “Brady” Blum has joined SXM as its newest host for The Pulse (SXM 5).
When the free listening trial is over, Brady will begin in a yet-to-be-revealed timeslot. However, he has already appeared on the channel in evening timeslots.
In the meantime between WNYL and SXM, Brady was hosting afternoons for 98.7 WZDH Detroit and 107.7 KNDD Seattle, both Audacy stations, before leaving the company earlier this Spring.
Laugh USA launches a new game show.
All Access Media Group reported this week that Laugh USA (SXM 98) launched a new comedy game show on Wednesday.
The new program is called “Who is This“, a variation of “Name That Tune“ in which contestants must ID comedians from short standup clips. Its hosted by Dave Ross and will air Thursdays at 10:00am ET (7:00am PT) with repeats at 5:00pm ET (2:00pm PT) and at various times throughout the weekend.
Laugh USA is the ONLY Comedy channel that’s available as part of SiriusXM’s Listen Free Event.
Channel News
There’s nothing new in this section this week, but its more of a reminder to let you know that Duran Duran Future Past Radio and Rockville Radio are still playing but on the SXM app only. Duran Duran runs until June 2nd while Rockville is still on SXM 505 until June 3rd.
However, speaking of Rockville…
A second round of Rockville Radio on Octane.
Rockville Radio is back on Octane for its second go-round. Taking over the entire Memorial Day Weekend (May 26th-29th), Octane (SXM 37) will feature a lot of interviews and musical performances from the event in Daytona Beach, Florida that took place last weekend.
Not only that, there’ll be even more musical performances and interviews over on Liquid Metal (SXM 40; XL; not available on the Listen Free Event).
There’s actually a lot it will cover on both channels so instead of mentioning it all, just use this link to check out the broadcast schedule.
This is the second weekend in a row Rockville Radio takes over Octane after it did so as well last weekend to cover the festival LIVE in its entirety.

Dave Matthews Band News
There are actually two pieces of news regarding the band so I’m mentioning it all here in just this one section.
First, Dave Matthews Band Radio (SXM 30) is bringing back its Friday Night Concert Series. Every Friday from now until September 1st, it will carry a live concert from the band, from a different location, on the channel.
For example, it kicked off last week in Houston and tonight (Friday, May 26th) on the channel, it will air from Nashville, and in the upcoming weeks ahead, it will air live Friday night concerts from Charleston, S.C.; Forest Hill, N.Y.; Bangor, Burgettstown, Penn.; Noblesville, Ind.; and Chicago, among others.
In another piece of Dave Matthews Band-related news, they’ll be performing a live show for SiriusXM subscribers ONLY in New York City on Wednesday, June 7th at the Irving Plaza.
Dave Matthews: Live and Acoustic will feature hits from their released 10th studio album Walk Around The Moon plus other fan favorites.
Subscribers can enter for a chance to win tickets on the SXM app through next Thursday, June 1st. The concert will air LIVE on Dave Matthews Band Radio (SXM 30) on Wednesday, June 7th at 8:00pm ET (5:00pm PT).
SiriusXM’s “I Love The ‘90s” Tour.
For the seventh straight year in a row… we got a ‘90s-styled tour from SiriusXM.
The SiriusXM I Love The ‘90s Tour is back and hitting stadiums, amphitheaters, and arenas continent-wide across the U.S. and Canada. Presented by The ‘90s on 9 (SXM 9; of course), you’ll have Vanilla Ice, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Blackstreet, Kid N Play, Montell Jordan, Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, 2 Live Crew, DJ Kool, the Sugarhill Gang, Young MC, and much much more.
It’ll be stopping in places like Tulsa, Irving, Tex.; Corpus Christi, Plymouth, Ind.; Terre Haute, Ind.; Canadian stops in Abbotsford, B.C., Edmonton, Calgary, and Medicine Hat, Alberta, and this weekend’s first two stops: Tonight, Friday, May 26th in Las Vegas at the SOAK Pool at Palms Casino Resort, and tomorrow, Saturday, May 27th at the L.A. County Fair in Pomona, Calif.
This is one of the most popular tours SiriusXM promotes every year since its inception in 2016. It has sold millions of tickets and sells out at all places it goes to.
Sports
Let’s get to this upcoming week’s sports action. I’ll get to the NBA and NHL playoffs schedules but first…
🏎️: This weekend… is The Indy 500.
This weekend, the grand spectacle of racing is here. Its the annual Indianapolis 500 from Indy Motor Speedway. All the excitement of one of the most famous races in all of motorsports can be heard on SiriusXM IndyCar Nation (SXM 160) and on NBC Sports Audio (SXM 85) on Sunday, May 28th.
There’s also music involved as Diplo’s Revolution (SXM 52) will carry performances from the Indy 500 Snake Pit, the next day on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th.
This will be a great excuse for the Listen Free Event as both IndyCar Nation and Diplo’s Revolution will be available.
