Edition #39: The latest news from SiriusXM.
SiriusXM + Miami = Almost here, NASCAR and Oprah re-up with SXM, channel changes, some events, and more.
Friday, April 28th, 2023
Hello, friends. Welcome back to the one and only SeriousXM newsletter, the ONLY newsletter that covers SiriusXM inside and out. I’m glad you opened the inbox to read what’s happening inside. Next week is scheduled to be a huge week for SiriusXM and you’ll see why when we get to the news.
If this is your first time, welcome aboard. I’ll keep this section short.
I’ll just get right to it because it’s a lot.
The Latest News
SiriusXM is ready to open its Miami home.
It feels like its been a while since SiriusXM opened up new broadcasting studios. On Monday, that finally changes.
Just about half an hour away down Southeast from where yours truly lives (on good traffic, 45 mins-one hour on bad traffic), SiriusXM will be opening up its new studios in Miami Beach, or as locals like to call it South Beach.
SiriusXM Miami as it will be called, is located at 2340 Collins Avenue, leasing it out from Starwood Capital. This features a 50-seat performance space and several artists-first radio and recording studios plus office space. SiriusXM Miami now joins its HQ at 30 Rock in NYC, West Hollywood, Washington, D.C.; and Nashville where they have studios and offices across the country.
This is a HUGE week for SiriusXM as there will be one person who’ll help launch it all and its an easy-brainer here… Howard Stern.
For the first time ever (SXM or with his predecessors), Howard Stern will be taking his show down the road to South Beach for his first three shows there from Monday, May 1st-Wednesday, May 3rd. But that won’t be the only thing happening that week as this will become a week-long extravaganza for the company. As a matter of fact, take a look at what they got planned. Its extensive!
Monday, May 1st
In addition to the debut of Howard Stern's show in Miami, there’ll also be special programming starting out with a Bon Jovi New Jersey Album Special that’ll celebrate the 35th anniversary of the album. It’ll be produced on Monday, and then aired on Thursday, May 4th at 1:00pm ET (10:00am PT) on Bon Jovi Radio (SXM 709).
Tuesday, May 2nd
Another Howard Stern show that day, but also Andy Cohen LIVE will have a special edition from the new studios. Yes, Jon Bon Jovi will be a guest on the program and it airs every single weekday morning from 10:00-11:00am ET (8:00-9:00am PT) on Radio Andy (SXM 102).
Also, a Miami legend himself, Mr. Worldwide, Mr. 305 Pitbull will sitdown for an interview with DJ Ka5 and Racuql Goldy on his exclusive channel, Pitbull’s Globalization (SXM 13). He’s got a new single out featuring Lil Jon plus a new bi-lingual album and SURPRISE an upcoming mega tour. It’ll air all day there.
Wednesday, May 3rd
The final day for Howard Stern’s shows for the week for Miami but also…
Bailey Zimmerman will have a performance from the new studios. He’ll be interviewed by The Highway’s Ania Hammer which will also include music from his full-length debut album Religiously. The Album. which will be available on Friday, May 12th but the interview and performance will be done on this day, then aired on The Highway (SXM 56) on Saturday, May 6th at 12 Noon ET (9:00am PT).
Thursday, May 4th
Its okay if you’ve never heard of Tinx before. Neither have I. But apparently, she’s one of those TikTok “Influencers”. Regardless, she’ll do a special ask me anything episode of her podcast, It’s Me, Tinx that’ll be recorded on this day in front of a live studio audience, and will then be released the next day, at its usual scheduled day, on the SXM and wherever you get your audio.
But here’s the main reason SiriusXM Miami will be used for… Latin music and culture. Its hot and big in South Florida as its rooted in Latin music and culture, considering how diverse South Florida really is.
So its no surprise that Colombian singer-songwriter Carlos Vives is expected to perform exclusively for SXM from its new Miami studios. There’ll be an interview and a performance featuring his new album Escalona Nunca Se Había Grabado Asi (Escalona Has Never Been Recorded Like This) plus other classics commemorating his 30 years in music. Recorded on this day, but will then air on Friday, June 2nd at 1:00pm ET (10:00am PT) on Caliente (SXM 151).
Still more… John Summit. He’ll play an exclusive DJ set from the new studios for what will be his brand new monthly show… Off The Grid Radio on Diplo’s Revolution (SXM 52). The performance, and the new show, will air on Friday, May 12th at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT).
Friday, May 5th
Let’s round off the work week with the Jonas Brothers, huh? At the time I’m curating this edition of the newsletter, the Jonas Brothers are in Kansas City for the 2023 NFL Draft. Next week at this time, they’ll be in Miami for a celebrity session with SiriusXM Hits 1 (SXM 2). They’ll perform live from their new album The Album (expected to be released on Friday, May 12th) from the new digs plus a sit-down interview.
The session will air on Friday, May 12th at 12 Noon and 3:00pm ET (9:00am and 12 Noon PT).
But there’s also some Latin flare too… Becky G in front of subscribers and fans at the new digs. She’ll discuss her first album of regional Mexican music and more. The Becky G Town Hall will air on Caliente (SXM 151) on Friday, May 19th at 1:00pm ET (10:00am PT) and on the NEW Hits Uno (SXM 321; more on that in a bit) on the same day at 5:00pm ET (2:00pm PT).
Oh, and LL Cool J will be stopping by too for a special “Miami Edition” of Salute The Sample where he and his crew will be breaking down some songs and the samples they came from. Basically showcasing local talent on a nationwide platform. It’ll produce on this day but air on LL Cool J’s Rock The Bells Radio (SXM 43) on Saturday, June 3rd for All City Day - Miami.
But if you thought that was enough, OH NO. There’s even more.
What perfect timing for SiriusXM to launch its new studios in Miami Beach on the same week as when the Formula One Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix will be taking place as well. SiriusXM will have live coverage of qualifying starting at 4:00pm ET (1:00pm PT) on Saturday, May 6th, followed by a live episode of Speed City F1. Raceday itself, the next day, Sunday, May 7th, will be starting at 2:30pm ET (11:30am PT) and you’ll be able to hear the race on ESPN Xtra (SXM 81) plus the SXM app.
And that’s it! That’s all you need to know as SiriusXM ushers in brand new broadcasting studios and they’re going all out next week to celebrate it!
NASCAR and Oprah re-up with SiriusXM.
To show you that SiriusXM is willing to become more of a global leader in audio, they’ve renewed agreements this week on two fronts.
First, Oprah Winfrey. SXM has re-upped a multi-year extension that’ll keep Oprah Winfrey and her slate of podcasts under global audio and video ad sales rights to OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network)’s suite of podcasts under SXM Media, the company’s ad sales group.
It also means that Stitcher will retain exclusive rights to distribute these shows across all podcast platforms and provide resources to develop new ones and new content if they so wish.
Also, NASCAR and SiriusXM have announced a multi-year renewal of their broadcasting agreement. This means that all races will continue to be heard on SXM plus the 24/7 channel SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (SXM 90) will remain.
That means that shows hosted by active and past drivers, crew chiefs, crew members, and NASCAR insiders aren’t going anywhere and neither are the Driver2Driver channels that subscribers get online only during every single NASCAR Cup Series race as well.
Channel Changes
I feel like its been a while since I’ve done one of these reports, but yeah… it has happened. We have a new channel coming up plus two other moves made recently.
Hits Uno is launching.
The biggest new change is a new permanent addition to the lineup.
Hits Uno will be a brand new Spanish-languaged-targeted hit music station that’ll launch next Friday, May 5th at 3:00pm ET (12 Noon PT). The Spanish translation is Hits One, so expect it to be a Spanish-language version of SiriusXM Hits 1. The channel will launch on Channel 321, right next to Aguila who this week has also moved to Channel 322 (previously from online-only 761) to be right next to the new channel.
This new channel will pretty much feature the hottest new and trending Latin music that’s out there today that spreads across many genres, including pop, reggaeton, dance, and viral music, not just from here but also from top Latin countries around the world.
Well-known artists like Bad Bunny, Becky G, Karol G, Maluma, Bizarrap, Rosalia, and more will be heard on this new channel. It also makes sense to launch it from SiriusXM’s new Miami studios because one… that’s where the channel will be based full-time and two… it will celebrate and represent South Florida in a huge way since this is The Capital of Latin America (and yours truly happens to live in South Florida as well). All the big movers and shakers in Latin music will come through on Hits Uno.
Indie 1.0 gets downgraded to Xtra.
First-generation Indie Rock is born on Indie 1.0 but as of this week, it’s now even more hidden to find it as it goes from an online-only channel on 714 to an Xtra channel that’s still available online-only.
It is still playing the same music as it did before, just now that it’s not seen on the channel lineup and is further down on the channel lineup so it’ll take time to get used to if you enjoy listening to this channel and want to find it.
Events
Now we get to this week’s events, in both entertainment and sports.
First, Mandatory Metallica is ending its limited-channel run on Wednesday, May 3rd on SXM 105. To end it, host Shannon Gunz interviews bassist Rob Trujillo on the channel and you can hear it on the following…

Monday, May 1st at 8:00am ET (5:00am PT)
Also, we enter the third and final week of Volume 6 of SiriusXM’s Next Wave Concert Series.
As we enter the final week, The Highway’s Next Generation Concert takes over, featuring Chase Wright, Ashley Cooke, and Nate Smith.
Monday, May 1st at 5:00pm ET (2:00pm PT)
Tuesday, May 2nd at 12 Noon ET (9:00am PT)
Wednesday, May 3rd at 8:00pm ET (5:00pm PT)
Thursday, May 4th at 12 Midnight ET (9:00pm PT)
Friday, May 5th at 3:00pm ET (12 Noon PT)
There’s also Caliente’s Sin Filtro Concert Series that’ll feature Pao Pao, DannyLux, and Lennis Rodriguez. It’ll air on Monday, May 1st at 5:00pm ET (2:00pm PT).
Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday
Happy birthday, Willie! He turns 90 this week and as a result, there’s a 90th birthday celebration from the L.A. Garage studio hosted by his daughter Paula Nelson plus host Shooter Jennings (from Outlaw Country; SXM 60) and an audience filled by subscribers and special guests.
Programming will also include a family-related performance from his ranch held last month, special episodes of Austin Outer Limits, and Sundays with (Jeannie) Seely. All of it will be aired on Willie’s Roadhouse (SXM 59).

Country Music at Stagecoach 2023
California’s Country Music Festival, Stagecoach, is back for another year. Oh, and just like Coachella, its in the Coachella Valley.
SiriusXM is back at it there from the festival grounds in Indio, Calif. This entire weekend, you’ll hear lots of country music, the way this festival is intended to be, over on The Highway (SXM 56). You’ll hear Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson, Old Dominion, and more, plus a special Music Row Happy Hour live from the festival later today at 4:00pm ET (1:00pm PT).
But not only that, there’ll be a little dance to it as well with Diplo and Diplo’s Revolution (SXM 52). There, you’ll hear Dillon Francis, Lost Frequencies, Cheat Codes, and more plus Diplo’s own closing set.
I won’t post the entire broadcast schedule here so if you are interested as to who will show up and perform, then click here for the entire schedule.
Sports
Time to get to my favorite section, sports!
MLB and MLS regular seasons are still at it, while NBA and NHL playoffs are in full swing as well. You also got Premier League action and you even have the NFL Draft from Kansas City that’s taking place this weekend. I already spared you the details on that last weekend so here are other sporting events taking place this weekend.
⛳: ¡Ay ay ay ay ay ay ayyyyyyyi! ¡El golf está en México!
Excuse my Spanish (I’m half Dominican/half Puerto Rican) because the PGA Tour is in Mexico this weekend for the Mexico Open at Vidanta. That would be Vidanta Vallarta in Vallarta, Mexico (it makes sense to call it the way it is then).
As always, SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio (SXM 92) has all the weekend coverage for the next three days (including today) starting at 1:00pm ET (10:00am PT).
🏁: NASCAR, IndyCar, and Formula One are all in play.
All the big motorsports are having races this weekend. Let’s begin with NASCAR. This weekend, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio is bringing live NASCAR coverage from Delaware at the Dover International Speedway for this weekend’s races.
Saturday, April 29th
1:30pm ET (10:30am PT) - NASCAR Xfinity Series: A-Game 200
Sunday, April 30th
2:00pm ET (11:00am PT) - NASCAR Cup Series: Wurth 400
This week’s Driver2Driver channels are (online-only)…
SXM 980: Chase Elliott - #9.
SXM 981: Kyle Larson - #5.
SXM 982: Kyle Busch - #8.
You also have IndyCar in play this weekend in Alabama for the Children’s of Alabama Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Ala. Coverage will be heard this Sunday, April 30th at 3:00pm ET (12 Noon PT) over on SiriusXM IndyCar Nation (SXM 160).
Finally, while we wait for the Miami Grand Prix which will be next weekend, Formula One will be in Azerbaijan this weekend for that country’s own Grand Prix at Baku City Circuit. You can hear live coverage over on ESPN Xtra (SXM 81) on Sunday morning, April 30th, very bright and early, at 7:00am ET (4:00am PT).
As I’m writing and curating this edition of the newsletter, I just felt dog gone tired from being awake 15+ hours throughout the entire day (the last three hours writing this week’s edition) with no naps or breaks in between so… yeah. I’m tired but I had to bring this week’s edition on time because of the new grand opening for SiriusXM Miami and that’s in my backyard so I have to give it some shine.
Anyways, thanks for reading and subscribing to my newsletter. I’m getting new subscribers all the time and I appreciate you all very much. Enjoy the weekend and the upcoming week ahead. Its gonna be a big one for SiriusXM for sure. I’ll talk to y’all next weekend.
