Edition #24: The latest news from SiriusXM.
A late edition but better late than never. This is a very light edition to post.
Monday, November 28th, 2022
Hello to all once again to the SeriousXM newsletter but also welcome to those who just subscribed and are now receiving this. Thank you for your support.
I’m late again, but that’s because I’m in vacation mode pretty much. Its hard to stay away from a vacation, especially since its a delayed vacation that I was supposed to take late last month that ended up being delayed for several weeks. Nonetheless, I’ve been enjoying it thus far and still got a week or so left before I head back home.
Thankfully, I do have internet where I’m staying so I’ll be able to continue to curate these newsletters for you. Before I get to this edition, here’s my usual asking stuff for you in favor of…
Now, onto this delayed edition of the newsletter, which will be very light by the way…
New Channels
The Michael Jackson Channel is back on SiriusXM.
Here we go again. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of one of music’s most iconic albums of all time, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, SiriusXM has come out with The Michael Jackson Channel.
The channel celebrates his career from his young early days with the Jackson 5 to then achieving a solo career that became massive, legendary, and iconic.
The channel is available now until December 22nd on SiriusXM Limited Edition #2 on Channel 502, which is one of twelve limited edition channels available online for streaming plans. Its also available on The Groove (SXM 50) but only until tomorrow as it spent the past couple of days there.
The channel will be devoting time to the artist and his iconic album, Thriller. A special called Thriller: A Closer Look has already aired twice before and will air again tomorrow, Tuesday, November 29th at 9:00pm ET (6:00pm PT) plus on the SXM app. The special looks at the making of the album plus its impact on pop culture.
Also, the channel will feature commentary from artists such as Christina Aguilera, Donny Osmond, Brandy, Nikki Giovanni, Toto, and more.
Billboard’s Top 112 Songs of Christmas Countdown.
Pretty self-explanatory here. Its a list counting down the Top 112 Songs of Christmas (a weird number for a list).
This list is curated by Billboard as it takes a look at Christmas songs past and present, so expect to hear Bing Crosby and Burl Ives to Mariah Carey and Paul McCartney.
This new list is only available on the SXM app for a limited time until December 28th. Its based on historical performance on Billboard’s weekly Holiday 100 songs chart.
Events
Not many events to talk about from here since most were taken place during Thanksgiving weekend, but here are some right here.
SiriusXM celebrates Native American Heritage Month.
As we wrap up November, let’s not forget one such commemorative month… Native American Heritage Month. This month celebrates the history, traditions, and cultural contributions of Native Americans and Indigenous people. The timing makes perfect sense since Native American Heritage Day just took place last Friday.
As a result, SiriusXM has been releasing special programming to celebrate the month. First, it has released a music special called Native Voices, which pays tribute to the survival of the success of America’s original roots and has songs from artists like Jimi Hendrix, Robbie Robertson, Ronnie Spector, and more. The special is available on the SXM app.
There’s also a special hosted by Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke for Deep Tracks (SXM 27), American Indigenous history with the This Land by Crooked Media podcast, conversations for Aboriginal youth with Urban Native Girl, Lisa Charleyboy, Indigenous history, politics, and culture from a left perspective with the Red Nation Podcast, and a special edition of Prisms: The Sound of Color where this month, it plays music that’s all from Indigenous artists within Americana, folk, and pop music, across Canada and the United States in several different Native languages.
SXM compiled a good list of all these specials and, if you’re a subscriber, you can check them out here.
Sports
Most sports have already taken place from this past weekend, including the NFL Thanksgiving games (which I already mentioned), NBA and NHL regular season action, regular NFL Sunday games, college basketball, and the final Saturday of the college football season.
Oh, and have I already forgotten to mention the FIFA World Cup from Qatar? Yeah… all of that was heard on SiriusXM. More of it will come within this week, including the World Cup and this…
🏈: Monday Night Football this week.
I thought I’d mention it this week since this is coming out on a Monday. Later tonight, its the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Indianapolis Colts. Honestly, as a sports fan, I can tell you that this is a matchup between two really god-awful teams this year.
However, if you care enough to hear the game, here’s when and where…
Tonight at 8:15pm ET (5:15pm PT)
Steelers Hometown Broadcast via AM 970 WBGG and 102.5 WDVE Pittsburgh: SXM 226 or online 826.
Colts Hometown Broadcast via 93.5 W228CX, 107.5 W298BB Indianapolis, and 97.1 WLHK Shelbyville, Ind.: SXM 225 or online 813.
National: SiriusXM NFL Radio (SXM 88).
Spanish: One of SXM’s Sports Play-by-Play channels (SXM 380 or online 970).
See? I told you I was keeping it light. Honestly, with Thanksgiving week, there wasn’t going to be much, if any, at all, to report on about SiriusXM so I just hope that you enjoyed the holiday with your family, friends, and loved ones.
After all, I am thankful for you and your support this year by reading and subscribing to the newsletter. It means the world to me.
If you want to showcase more of that support so I can be even more thankful, then do the following things…
Its FREE to do so.
Share it with your family, friends, and loved ones, and hell, why not with total strangers too.
Please donate. Every dollar will really make a difference, going towards this newsletter and the work that I do. It also helps pay for the SXM bill so I can continue to keep an eye on SXM and its channels to continue reporting the latest news to you.
That’s it. I’ll be back on Friday as we get back to a more normal week.
Have a great week, and more importantly, Happy Holidays!
