Edition #23: A special edition of the newsletter.
A special edition to review last week's news on this Thanksgiving week.
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2022
Hello all! Welcome back to the SeriousXM newsletter. I first have to offer my sincerest apologies for not delivering a newsletter on time last weekend. I ended up going on another vacation as a delay in my birthday plans from last month. Also, I was out and about exploring and had little time to write this newsletter, despite having the internet to curate it.
Nonetheless, I thought this would be a great idea to write for you THREE, repeat it, THREE newsletters to bring you this week. Thanksgiving won’t slow me down as I’m thankful and grateful to all the subscribers of this newsletter. It really does touch and warms my heart knowing that you do care about this newsletter and the news that goes along with it. For that, I’m eternally grateful.
Here’s how this week will work…
Today: A look back at last week’s news, not counting events unless its still taking place. Some Thanksgiving events will be mentioned here (since it’s tomorrow).
Thursday: A special throwback newsletter! I won’t say anything as I’ll let the newsletter speak for itself. Other Thanksgiving events will be mentioned here.
Friday: This week’s news and events. It should be a much lighter edition due to Thanksgiving.
Now that I got that out of the way, here’s the usual stuff I ask you in favor of…
Its now time to catch you up on last week’s news across SiriusXM.
Last Week’s News
Radio Andy is now SXM’s new flagship entertainment station.
Last week, we received the news that SXM has re-upped Andy Cohen to a three-year contract extension. As a result, Radio Andy (SXM 102; XL) will become the new home for all things pop culture and entertainment at SiriusXM, meaning that SiriusXM Stars (SXM 109; XL) will come to an end after a long run that first started at Sirius as Sirius Stars back in the mid-2000s. Those programs will move to Radio Andy with the channel now airing its top interviews of the year before shutting down at the end of the year.
It will now see two of its shows, Andy Cohen Live and Smith Sisters Live, expand to Monday-Friday shows from 10:00-11:00am ET and from 9:00-10:00am ET, respectively.
Also, don’t forget that this extension will not only keep Radio Andy but also Andy Cohen’s Kiki Lounge (SXM 312) as well, which is mainly music that he likes from a plethora of artists including Madonna, Cher, U2, John Mayer, Aretha Franklin, and many more.
Programs already heard from SiriusXM Stars will move into Radio Andy including Gayle King in the House, The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham and It’s Me, Tinx plus its other programs already available, including Jeff Lewis Live, Reality Checked with Amy Phillips, Bevelations with Bevy Smith, Make It Nice with Dorinda Medley, Sandyland with Sandra Bernhard, and others.
A new look refreshed and revamped SiriusXM app.
A lot of you have probably waited a long time for this. A new look, a refreshed look, has been unveiled on the SXM app last Thursday. It now includes an updated color scheme, bold headers, and a new Browse section.
It now also includes greater emphasis on streaming-exclusive content, including podcasts, online-only music channels, and on-demand replays of SXM shows. This is included across smartphones and tablets, with an update for computers via web browsers rolling out soon.
We should’ve seen this coming after The Desk reported less than a month ago about SXM’s new update for its Apple CarPlay experience, which included new features for listening to podcasts and other on-demand audio content.
The app includes 425+ channels of commercial-free music, Howard Stern, news/talk, entertainment, Every. Sport. Ever., video content, online-only stations, and much more.
A new Artist Accelerator Program has launched.
Last week, SiriusXM has launched a new Artist Accelerator program. Its hope is to break new artists into the mainstream by first supporting them across SiriusXM’s platforms. Its expected to select six to twelve artists across a wide range of genres of the next year, who’ll receive focused programming, various marketing support for their music, and much more.
The first artist selected is Coco Jones, who’s an R&B singer and has been supporting her latest single I.C.U. on The Heat (SXM 46) and Heart & Soul (SXM 48). The former has her as a Future Fire artist while the latter has that song as a Platinum Pick. Not only that, Pandora has put her song on blast with takeover modes on its various R&B channels.
OneRepublic on an SXM Pandora LIVE concert.
Last week, SXM announced that OneRepublic will perform a Pandora LIVE concert on Monday, December 5th at the Avant Gardner in Brooklyn.
Its a free concert (but must RSVP) hosted by SiriusXM Hits 1 (SXM 2)’s flagship program, The Morning Mash Up (which airs 6:00am-12:00pm ET / 3:00-9:00am PT weekday mornings).
The concert will air on SiriusXM Hits 1 on Wednesday, December 14th at 9:00pm ET (6:00pm PT) and on The Pulse (SXM 5) at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT).
New Channels
We have two new channels to tell you about. One is temporary, but another is permanent.
Neil Young Radio is back once again.
Neil Young Radio is back on SiriusXM for a limited time. This time, its available right now until December 16th on the SXM app as its limited week-long run on Deep Tracks (SXM 27) is coming to an end tomorrow.
You’ll get to hear his entire music catalog plus every new song from his new album with Crazy Horse called World Record. Plus, collaborations, exclusives, concert broadcasts, archives, and much more.
Perfectly Frank is here to stay.
However, one that will stay is a brand new channel starting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 23rd, and just in time for Thanksgiving… Perfectly Frank, Siriusly Sinatra’s spin-off.
This new channel will air only on the SXM app and just play nothing but Frank Sinatra’s music. All classic hits, rarities, live tracks, and more will be heard here.
The other channel, Siriusly Sinatra (SXM 70) will continue, offering the best of standards music from artists like Sinatra, but also from Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, and plenty more.
Traditional car users will get to hear a peak of Perfectly Frank on Siriusly Sinatra this long holiday weekend from 3:00am ET (12 Midnight PT) on Thanksgiving Day, November 24th to 3:00am ET (12 Midnight PT) on Sunday, November 27th, after which it will only be available on the SXM app.

Conan O’Brien as a guest SiriusXM DJ.
To celebrate the launch of his new channel, Team Coco Radio (SXM 106), Conan O’Brien has been a guest DJ at two of his other favorite SiriusXM channels, The Beatles Channel (SXM 18) and Lithium (SXM 34).
The ones for The Beatles Channel have ended but you can still hear him as a guest DJ this week on Lithium.
Together with Jim Pitt, the Late Night music booker, they’ll share their memories and behind-the-scenes moments from the ’90s, featuring bands that made their debut on his first TV show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Here’s where you can hear it…

Bruce Springsteen has a new covers album out called Only The Strong Survive, his 21st album and his first covers LP since We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006). As a result, a special on his own channel E Street Radio (SXM 20) will cover that with host Jim Rotolo.
It will premiere later today, Wednesday, November 23rd at 10:00am ET (7:00am PT) plus on the SXM app, with music from his new album premiering throughout the day. You can also hear it on…

But the interview that everyone will be talking about is his conversation, for the first time, with the King of All Media… Howard Stern. Its been turned into a special event for HBO and HBO Max. It will debut this weekend, a two-hour+ event, on Sunday, November 27th, at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT) and replayed again at 2:30am ET (11:30pm PT).
Sports
There were so many sports that happened over the weekend, all aired on SiriusXM, from the NFL’s first-ever game in Mexico City (spoiler alert: San Francisco beat Arizona) to the 106th Grey Cup on Canada Talks (SXM 167; spoiler alert: Toronto ended Winnipeg’s quest for a three-peat). Plus, you also had other NBA and NHL regular season action.
However, there’s only one I’ll mention here that’s now taking place, and its one of the biggest sporting events, if not THE biggest sporting event in the world.
⚽: The World Cup is here!
It has finally arrived, despite all the controversies in the background. Its the 2022 FIFA World Cup from Qatar, the smallest nation to ever host the tournament.
All 64 matches will be heard on SiriusXM, most of them aired on FOX Sports (SXM 83) but when there are two matches happening simultaneously, the other will be aired on SiriusXM F.C. (SXM 157). 32 teams are fighting for pride and glory for one of sports’ best and most legendary trophies, including host nation Qatar and the United States.
FOX Sports will carry the other two USMNT matches that have still yet to take place, including this Friday, November 25th against England at 2:00pm ET (11:00am PT) and against Iran next Tuesday, November 29th, also at 2:00pm ET (11:00am PT).
In addition to those live matches, SiriusXM FC will have devoted programming including World Cup Today (airing between matches from 7:00-8:00am, 10:00-11:00am and 1:00-2:00pm ET - 4:00-5:00am, 7:00-8:00am and 10:00-11:00am PT) and Counter Attack (following the conclusion of the day’s play from 4:00-7:00pm ET - 1:00-4:00pm PT).
This is unrelated to SiriusXM, but if you want to watch it on TV as well, matches are LIVE in English on FOX and FOX NOW and in Spanish on Telemundo and Peacock plus every single match is on-demand for FREE on Tubi.
Only half of the events are mentioned here. This week’s other Thanksgiving events will be mentioned tomorrow.
That’s it. That’s it for this special edition of the newsletter. Thank you so much for keeping up with me and for reading, even if its not on time. I surely do appreciate it!
Remember to do the following…
Remember, there’ll be a special Throwback newsletter coming up tomorrow before bringing you a regular newsletter on Friday, despite the Thanksgiving holiday.
I will catch up with you all tomorrow.
