Hello all! Welcome back to the SeriousXM newsletter, or I should say for the new subscribers just joining us, welcome aboard to SeriousXM!
If you are new, this is the ONLY newsletter that covers SiriusXM on a weekly basis. SiriusXM does NOT tell you what’s going on inside their service in a newsletter format, whether its the latest news, new channels, or awesome events taking place. But this newsletter will take the time and the research to compile it all for you into one easy-to-read newsletter.
If you are new, first of all, thank you for subscribing! It means a lot to such a still-new start-up newsletter. Second, if you know of someone who would be interested in subscribing for FREE, then have them click the button below…
Third, and finally, if you have enough change out there, and wanna spare a few bucks to help support this newsletter and the work I do, then click here. Every donation is really appreciated! It takes time and energy to put this together for all of you, so I’d appreciate every dollar that comes my way. One smile equals $5, two equals $10, and so on and so forth.
Before we go to this week’s news, a quick shoutout to Matthew Keys of The Desk for mentioning this newsletter on Reddit! Thanks to him, last week’s edition had over 200+ views for the very first time in our short existence, and 13 more new subscribers (since last week’s newsletter) are joining us for the first time in receiving this newsletter in their inboxes today. Matthew, if you’re reading this, thank you so much! It really means a lot for a one-man band operation like myself.
Anyways, enough about me because I’m not the star of this newsletter, SiriusXM is. On with today’s edition.
The Latest News
Everything you need to know about SiriusXM 🍁’s Music Town concerts.
This week, SiriusXM’s neighbors to the north finally released dates, locations, and ticket details for its upcoming Music Town concerts in four unique cities across Canada.
This was the first-ever edition of the contest and thanks to nominations, community spirit, and musical passion, four lucky towns were able to secure once-in-a-lifetime concerts with big-name Canadian acts.
So, if you live in Canada, here’s what you need to know. A limited amount of FREE tickets, based on venue capacity, will be available to claim at the SiriusXM Music Town website starting today, Friday, August 19th, at 11:00am EDT/8:00am PDT.
The concerts will be…
Saturday, September 17th for Walk Off The Earth at Alder Recreation Centre in Orangeville, Ontario.
Saturday, September 24th for Dallas Smith at Affinity Place in Estevan, Saskatchewan.
Saturday, October 1st for 2Frères at Blanc-Sablon Arena in Blanc-Sablon, Quebec.
Sunday, October 2nd for Arkells at Miramichi Civic Centre in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
SiriusXM Canada’s SVP of Sales and Marketing, Paul Cunningham:
“When we set out to find the first SiriusXM Music Towns, we knew Canadians would be excited by the opportunity to bring amazing Canadian artists to their doorstep, but the passion and enthusiasm has exceeded all our expectations. As we continue to plan local events, we're looking forward to celebrating with the winning communities and we have some exciting surprises in the works!”
Deputy Mayor of Miramichi and a key player in the town’s rallying stage of the competition, Paddy Quinn:
“It is a great honour to host Arkells for an unforgettable concert experience. Music and culture have always been important to our community and when we learned of this competition, we rallied to demonstrate why Miramichi would be the perfect place for a SiriusXM Music Town concert. Now, we are fortunate to be one of four towns hosting one of Canada's biggest bands. We are also excited to offer additional activities and events built around the concert to make this occasion even more memorable for all of us.”
Each SiriusXM Music Town event will engage local vendors, businesses, and community groups, to help support the community even further which will be pretty neat in the process.
Technical Issues
It seems to be the problem once again… either streaming online or the SXM app is not working.

This tweet is from yesterday as SiriusXM has somehow noted that there’s an issue with playback on some devices. Engineers are working on fixing the problem ASAP.
It even asks users of SiriusXM on Twitter if they’re still experiencing problems. Here’s just one example:

Even SiriusXM Urban View (Channel 126) host Joe Madison noticed this yesterday.

If you go on Reddit, you’ll find users complaining this week about the streaming portion of the app and it just doesn’t work. Hopefully, the engineers can get it fixed sooner rather than later because this is another week where we have to report on SXM’s streaming/app problems, just as I did a couple of weeks ago.
Events
Okay. Let’s turn our attention now to events taking place this weekend into next week across SiriusXM. We got all kinds, including more sports action, like this weekend’s WNBA Playoffs, a reminder of CFL action, and much more.
Flea is telling you the music he likes.
This week, SXM’s Whole Lotta Red Hot (Channel 315) is introducing a new program from their bassist, Flea (real name: Michael Peter Balzary).
Flea Loves, which makes the program pretty self-explanatory, debuted this week back on Monday and features music that he likes (obvious enough, right?), handpicking songs from artists like Public Enemy, Black Flag, Kendrick Lamar, Thundercat, and a whole lot more.
There are still four more opportunities to catch the program…
TONIGHT (Friday) at 7:00pm EDT/4:00pm PDT.
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:00am and 10:00pm EDT/7:00am and 7:00pm PDT.
Sunday at 2:00pm EDT/11:00am PDT.
By the way, they still got a Small Stage Series concert to perform next month at the Apollo Theater, as we told you about in last week’s edition. We’ll remind you as it gets closer.
Zedd’s Brooklyn Mirage show on BPM.
Electronic Dance Music lovers, listen up! (yours truly is included in this)
Only one night… only one night… can you hear Zedd’s sold-out show at the Brooklyn Mirage on BPM (Channel 51). Legendary DJ Zedd had a two-night extravaganza at the Brooklyn Mirage last week and BPM will have his second-night set later today at 6:00pm EDT/3:00pm PDT.
Zedd will spin his collaborations with artists like Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Alessia Cara, and more - plus mixes of hits from Rufus Du Sol, Skrillex, Daft Punk, and more.
Not only that, its being announced that Zedd and country star Maren Morris are teaming up once again after the huge 2018 hit, The Middle, with a new track called Make You Say, which will air ahead of the special.
By the way, if you are wondering, The Brooklyn Mirage is THE place for EDM music lovers in NYC and has stars dropping by and playing there for the next couple of months, including Gryffin (who’s playing there tonight), Above and Beyond (also this weekend), and The Chainsmokers (playing in mid-September). You’ll probably hear these artists play their sets from the Mirage on BPM.
Octane will let Five Finger Death Punch take over this weekend.
Five Finger Death Punch and Brantley Gilbert are teaming up for a U.S. arena tour, which will kick off November 9th in Grand Rapids, Mich. before ending in Vegas on December 17th.
This new tour will mainly help promote the band’s new album, Afterlife, which comes out today. As a result, the band’s Ivan Moody and Chris Kael are taking over Octane (Channel 37) to help promote its music.
So, if you are interested, here’s when they’ll be on Octane this weekend…
Today (Friday) at 9:00am, 3:00 and 10:00pm EDT/6:00am, 12 Noon and 7:00pm PDT.
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:00am and 7:00pm EDT/7:00am and 4:00pm PDT.
Sunday at 2:00pm EDT/11:00am PDT.
Pearl Jam’s European Tour on SiriusXM continues.
Legendary rock music band Pearl Jam continues their 2022 European Tour, and SXM’s Pearl Jam Radio (Channel 22) continues to broadcast all their stops from the summer. Up next, with broadcast air times at 6:00 and 9:00pm EDT/3:00 and 6:00pm PDT.
Today (August 19th) from their July 14th concert in Krakow, Poland.
Tuesday, August 23rd from their July 17th concert in Paris.
September 2nd from their July 24th concert in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
September 6th from their July 25th concert, also in Amsterdam.
Sports
Sports time and there’s still plenty of action to check out, including Playoffs for one league, more golf, more autosports, and more football from here and from our neighbors to the north.
🏀: WNBA Playoffs are here!
Yep, its that time. The WNBA is slowly wrapping up its 26th season with another trip to the playoffs. This year, we have…
New York Liberty vs. Chicago Sky
Phoenix Mercury vs. Las Vegas Aces
Dallas Wings vs. Connecticut Sun
Washington Mystics vs. Seattle Storm
For Seattle Storm’s Sue Bird, this is her last trip to the playoffs and one more run at it before retirement. Meanwhile, the Chicago Sky is attempting to become the first WNBA team to win back-to-back championships in 20 years.
The playoffs began on Wednesday with (SPOILER ALERT) the Liberty, Aces, Sun, and Storm winning their first games of their best-of-three series. You can listen to all the action on SiriusXM NBA Radio (Channel 86). This weekend, they’ll have…
Tomorrow (August 20th) at 9:00pm EDT/6:00pm PDT - Mercury vs. Aces (Game 2).
Sunday at 4:00pm EDT/1:00pm PDT - Mystics vs. Storm (Game 2).
🏈: CFL still kicking into high gear on SiriusXM.
Just checking in with our neighbors from the North, and there’s still a lot of CFL (Canadian Football League) action left to go in the year, so may I remind you that SiriusXM carries CFL games too.
All games can be heard in English on Canada Talks (Channel 167) with French-language broadcasts of Montréal Alouettes games heard on Influence Franco (Channel 174).
As an example, here is this week’s schedule…
Friday, August 19th
7:00pm EDT/4:00pm PDT - Edmonton Elks vs. Ottawa Redblacks
10:00pm EDT/7:00pm PDT - B.C. Lions vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders
Saturday, August 20th
4:00pm EDT/1:00pm PDT - Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Montreal Alouettes
7:00pm EDT/4:00pm PDT - Calgary Stampeders vs. Toronto Argonauts
NOTE: If you are wondering why I haven’t talked about or don’t mention MLB, NFL Preseason, or Soccer matches, its because those seasons are starting up (for the NFL), just in full swing (like the Premier League and MLS) or are starting to wind down (like the MLB), its because there are too many games taking place throughout every single weekend that its hard and takes up too much time to mention them all. I will get to them when the playoffs have arrived (MLB), the regular season has begun (NFL) or it is entering its final weekend (all sports, including Premier League and MLS). Be patient if these sports aren’t mentioned. They will at some point.
⛳🏎️🏁: Other Sports
Here are some of the other sports that will be taking place as well.
SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio (Channel 92) is home to this weekend’s coverage of the BMW Championship from Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland. Coverage is expected to start each day at 1:00pm EDT/10:00am PDT.
SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) is where you’ll want to be for LIVE NASCAR racing from Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y.
NASCAR Xfinity Series
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:30pm EDT/11:30am PDT - Sunoco Go Rewards 200
NASCAR Cup Series
Sunday at 2:00pm EDT/11:00am PDT - Go Bowling at The Glen
This week’s in-race driver channels (a reminder: these channels are streaming-only)…
Kyle Busch - #18 on Channel 980.
Chase Elliott - #9 on Channel 981.
Martin Truex, Jr. - #19 on Channel 982.
Finally, SiriusXM IndyCar Nation (Channel 160) will have all the action from the season’s next stop at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill. (which is near St. Louis).
They will have multiple practices and qualifying sessions that’ll air throughout the weekend before tomorrow’s Indy Lights (developmental series to the main IndyCar series) race at 4:10pm EDT/1:10pm PDT, and before the main race, the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, which will also air tomorrow at 6:00pm EDT/3:00pm PDT.
