Edition #11: The latest news from SiriusXM.
Not much here, but still lots of sporting events to tell you about.
Friday, August 12th, 2022
Hello once again. We last spoke 24 hours ago but back to tell you what happened this week in SiriusXM with another SeriousXM newsletter.
This week has been really quiet as August is usually a quiet month anyways. Still, there are some things to tell you about so here you go.
But before you do, I ask that you please subscribe to my newsletter. Its FREE if you do, and tell your friends and family about it.
Also, if you want to support this newsletter and my work towards building a mini-media empire with TheRolyPoly Productions, then I suggest you click here. Every donation is crucial and is worth my appreciation and gratitude to you. Thank you in advance.
Now, time for this week’s news.
The Latest News
SiriusXM was offering Rachel Maddow her own radio show.
So, this is a crazy story but apparently, it was revealed this week that SiriusXM has given an offer to MSNBC talk show host/commentator Rachel Maddow to host her own weekday talk show on the service.
In exchange? $40 million for an undetermined amount of time, according to a report from Vanity Fair.
It wasn’t clear how it was going or how far it went, but it would’ve included rights to projects Maddow was working on or considering. She’s been working on other projects alongside working her one-night-a-week shift on Mondays at MSNBC and has opened up a new production company, Surprise Inside, to work on those projects.
There wasn’t word if an agreement was in place to distribute the show that would’ve taken place, but if done so, it would’ve been her first full-time return to radio in more than a decade when she once had a prior show on Air America, a progressive-leaning radio network that got shut down 12 years ago in 2010.
H/T to The Desk from Matthew Keys for the story.
Brandi Carlile has her own program on SiriusXM.
This week, SXM announced that six-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, and #1 N.Y. Times Bestselling author Brandi Carlile will have her own program on The Spectrum (Channel 28).
Titled Brandi Carlile’s Somewhere Over The Radio, it will be a monthly show on the channel that’s home to a mesh of classic and new rock coming together. The show premiered on Wednesday, August 10th but is available now on demand in the SXM app and will release new episodes on the first Wednesday of every month at 2:00pm ET (11:00am PT).
In this program, Carlile will curate the music and focus on those who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. She’ll also have personal anecdotes between songs and engage in candid conversations with her guests while sharing music with LGBTQIA+-friendly artists.
Brandi Carlile…
“This show is about the impact that LGBTQIA + artists have made on the world, the spiritual realm, and certainly our family through the transcendence of music. Queer artists and pioneers have given my wife and I everything that we have including each other. Let's shine a little light on queer excellence today.”
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers at the Apollo Theater.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are doing it again, this time at the historic Apollo Theater for the very first time, as a part of SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series, meant for SXM subscribers only in an invitation-only concert.
For one night only, RHCP will be performing at the Theater which will celebrate their 24/7 music channel on SXM, Whole Lotta Red Hot (Channel 315). It will include their hits, fan favorites, and current music from their current album Unlimited Love. The concert will air live on the channel, and then rebroadcast multiple times throughout the week.
Oh, and BONUS, the channel will also be available as a pop-up on SiriusXM Channel 105 throughout the entire month of September.
If you’re a SXM subscriber and want to attend, then go here.
Events
There are no general events that we know of, but sports is starting to kick into high gear as we march on during the last full month of Summer. Here are all the sporting events taking place this weekend and there are plenty.
🏈: FOOTBALL is BACK. Preseason that is. But still…
Oh boy, how we missed you, football. You coming back means the tides are changing, the season will soon change, and football, America’s favorite sport, is coming back to give us something to watch on Sundays.
Or… to listen because SiriusXM has coverage to every NFL game EVER this season. All games will be either on SiriusXM NFL Radio (Channel 88), a handful of Sports Play-by-Play channels, or even on the hometown broadcasts that are available on the streaming-only plans.
Preseason football started yesterday with the N.Y. Giants taking on the New England Patriots (SPOILER ALERT: Giants won 23-21) and the Tennessee Titans taking on the Baltimore Ravens (SPOILER ALERT: Ravens won 23-10).
It will continue throughout the weekend and for the next couple of weeks in the mentioned places above and on the SXM app until the season gets going next month.
I would suggest you click here if you wanna see this weekend’s preseason schedule, and where you can hear it.
🏀: The WNBA is in its weekend regular-season finale.
The regular season is almost over for the WNBA, and the playoffs are very near. But first, the season will conclude this weekend.
Yesterday, SiriusXM NBA Radio (Channel 86) carried LIVE coverage of the defending champions Chicago Sky against the Las Vegas Aces (SPOILER ALERT: Las Vegas won 89-78). More games will be played later today, but this Sunday, it will carry two more WNBA games to help close out the regular season…
1:00pm ET/10:00am PT - Minnesota Lynx vs. Connecticut Sun
3:00pm ET/12:00 Noon PT - Seattle Storm (legendary WNBA player Sue Bird’s final regular-season game) vs. Las Vegas Aces
All four of those teams, plus the already mentioned Chicago Sky, are already in this season’s playoffs. SiriusXM NBA Radio will have those games and much more coverage throughout the weekend and throughout the WNBA playoffs.

⛳: Golf is in the Mid-South this week.
The PGA Tour is in Memphis this week for the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The tournament kicked off yesterday and will run all weekend long on, where else, SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio (Channel 92). Coverage begins at 1:00pm ET (10:00am PT) all weekend long.
🏁: NASCAR is in Richmond this week.

And that’s it for this week! A pretty light week, considering we’re in a pretty light month where nothing major is really happening at all, but there was a decent amount of news to share and tell you about, so done.
Before I go, I wanna give a huge shoutout to Donn Tillman, a SeriousXM newsletter reader. He has made a significant contribution to my work by subscribing to my Silver membership at Buy Me A Coffee.
That silver plan is $10/month or $100/year and he went with the yearly route. It unlocks all the benefits of my Bronze plan plus DIRECT contact with me, personally.
I am so grateful and appreciative of Donn’s efforts to support me and my work and I can’t thank him enough in advance for it. This shoutout is for you!
If you wanna receive a shoutout in a future newsletter, then help support me and my work by clicking here. You can buy me one smile for a $5 donation or two smiles for $10, and so on and so forth OR you can become a member by supporting at either the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level for either $5, $10 or $15/month, which translates to $50, $100 or $150/year.
Buying a membership helps unlock exclusive perks while also supporting my work, which not only includes this newsletter but several other projects I work on as well. They sometimes take a toll and take hours to do, but are very rewarding in the end so every donation is crucial and is really appreciated by me so thanks in advance.
Speaking of thanks, that’s it for this week’s newsletter and I thank you for reading and subscribing! If you haven’t already done so, subscribe for FREE and then tell your friends and family about it! They’ll subscribe as a result and hopefully provide a little love with a worthy donation to help support what I do.

Until next week, have a great weekend!
SXM can count itself lucky that it didn't get stuck with Rachel Maddow! 😂
