Last Week’s News
A software bug keeps SXM subscribers in Nissan alive.
Nissan asked SXM to keep satellite radio subscriptions alive in more than 10,000 rental vehicles that were impacted by a software bug.
This bug allows to disable rearview backup cameras in Nissan Frontiers, Pathfinders, Rogues, and Titans sold in the U.S. Last year, it began receiving reports that those radios not subscribed to SXM were being rebooted by themselves which lead to a software update from the radio’s manufacturer, Bosch.
Once discovered, it contacted SXM to keep the radios alive on those vehicles, then worked on a permanent fix which came to be back in April.
However, 10,000 vehicles were still affected, so Nissan has issued a recall for those still affected. Rental car companies can contact Nissan to get it fixed by a dealer or a software update for free.
Thankfully though, vehicles purchased by consumers were not affected so their radios play on and live on.
H/T to The Desk from Matthew Keys for this story.
SiriusXM DJ under arrest for narcotics trafficking.
A part-time DJ for SXM’s Eminem-run channel Shade 45 (XL) is under arrest for a narcotics trafficking case that may have taken place over a span of two years.
DJ Love Dinero, whose real name is Lance Holmes, was arrested alongside a U.S. postal worker for shipping drugs from California to the Hempstead, N.Y. post office.
According to CBS News, Holmes is accused of intercepting a USPS priority mail shipment of illegal narcotics from a letter carrier who was working at the Hempstead post office. The Nassau D.A. said that…
“… it was alleged that Lewis was paid $500 per package that was delivered to Holmes. Holmes received at least 27 kilograms of narcotics along this postal route. The senders of these packages went to great lengths to avoid K9 detection.”
Despite that, and being shrink-wrapped and covered in fabric softener sheets and grease, it didn’t pass the K9 sniff test. Once discovered, the street value of the drugs was valued at $1 million. Investigators said that they tracked them for three months, however, this may have gone on for the past two years.
Both Holmes and the postal worker pleaded not guilty in this case, but are being held on high bail. However, as a result of this, SXM has suspended Holmes immediately from his duties.
If convinced of the major charges, Holmes faces 25 years to life in prison while the postal worker could face 20 years in prison.
