The Latest News
SiriusXM is moving Volume to online-only.
I thought this week’s Radio Hall of Fame announcement would’ve been the biggest news of this week. NOPE! As a matter of fact, this story has been developing throughout the week, and its a big change coming up to the channel lineup, especially for fans of Volume.
This week is the last week of Volume on SiriusXM’s traditional car plans as starting on Monday, August 1st, it will move to online-only on the SXM app.
Since 2016, Volume has been SXM’s only all-music talk channel which didn’t play music but talked about the music. Various shows have come and gone and today’s lineup included Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk, Debatable, Volume West, Feedback, and plenty more.
With the upcoming move, some shows have been canceled while others are being moved to Faction Talk (Channel 103; XL) starting Monday, August 1st. Its currently unknown as to the channel number on streaming plans Volume will land on, nor how it will operate.
In terms of traditional car plans, there is no word as to what will replace Volume on the Channel 106 spot. However, I have a feeling that SiriusXM will replace it with a new Conan O’Brien-themed comedy channel as a result of a new agreement signed between SiriusXM and Team Coco back in May. The channel will more likely go defunct in the temporary term before the new channel launches in the Fall. Stay tuned to find out and once there’s word about it, we’ll let you know here in the newsletter.
Two SiriusXM hosts are in this year’s Radio Hall of Fame class.
SeriousXM wants to take the time to congratulate and welcome two its radio hosts as they get inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame for its 2022 class.
The big name is Christopher Russo. Better known as Mad Dog, he’s long been known as one of the most legendary sports talk radio personalities of our current generation.
He’s best known as the co-host of the Mike and The Mad Dog radio program on 660 WFAN from 1989-2008 with Mike Francesa. Mad Dog left the program to join SiriusXM in 2008, where he’s still doing his thing today with his own channel, Mad Dog Sports Radio (Channel 82). You can listen to him on weekdays from 3:00-6:00 p.m. ET (12:00-3:00 p.m. PT) on the station with Mad Dog Unleashed.
Carol Miller is another name recognized in this year’s class.
She has had a legendary 50-year radio career in New York, having been on the air there since 1973, and is the host of the nationally syndicated program Get The Led Out, which explores the history of Led Zeppelin. She’s also a host on Classic Rewind (Channel 25) and Deep Tracks (Channel 27).
In her time in New York, she’s hosted programs for 95.5 WPLJ and 102.7 WNEW-FM. Currently, she’s heard on the air locally on 104.3 WAXQ (Q104.3).
Both names are part of a class of nine for this year’s National Radio Hall of Fame. They’ll be recognized at Chicago’s Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel on Tuesday, November 1st.
SiriusXM + NFL = 🤝 for five more seasons.
This week, SiriusXM and the NFL have come together to ink a five-year extension of their current contract. Since 2004 when it was Sirius Satellite Radio, it has been the flagship home of NFL games, talk shows, and content.
All the way until Super Bowl LXI in 2027, SiriusXM will continue to carry all NFL games, pre-, regular, and post-season, on the radio and on the SXM app plus SiriusXM NFL Radio (Channel 88) and all 32 NFL home broadcasts on streaming online plans.
A new thing for this year, each team channel will now carry the pre- and post-game shows from each team. Plus, there’ll be extra bonus team content on the SXM app, including coaches’ shows, press conferences, and more.
One of satellite radio’s longest-serving sports contracts will continue and it will be 23 years by the time it expires in five years.
SiriusXM + NWSL = 🤝 with a new contract.
A new sports league has arrived this week for SiriusXM audiences.
SiriusXM and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) have announced a new agreement that will make LIVE NWSL matches available to subscribers on the SXM app and on SiriusXM F.C. (Channel 157). The NWSL is pretty much the women’s version of Major League Soccer (MLS).
To start off, listeners will have access to a weekly NWSL Game of the Week package, beginning with tonight’s match between Racing Louisville F.C. and Portland Thorns F.C. at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT) on SiriusXM F.C.
The twelve teams are competing for one of six playoff berths that will lead up to the NWSL Championship Game on October 29th.
Steve Cohen, SiriusXM’s SVP of Sports Programming and Podcasts:
“We are excited to offer our subscribers live NWSL matches every week on SiriusXM FC and the SXM App. The NWSL is a leading professional soccer league featuring talent from around the world. We are proud to add the NWSL to the growing offering of live women’s sports on SiriusXM.”
Brian Gordon, NWSL Media’s Managing Director and Executive Producer:
“We’re always looking for unique and exciting ways to introduce our game to previously untapped audiences and this programming marks another fantastic step towards reaching those new fans. We’re excited to work alongside SiriusXM as we continue expanding the ways in which fans can access NWSL matches.”
Technical Issues
There was a reporting issue with SiriusXM this week, especially on its Android app.
The app would either be dead, or it would work but the channels wouldn’t play.
This took place throughout the day on Wednesday but SXM quickly got to work on this as, by the next day on Thursday, the issues were resolved.
All outages are gone and have since been resolved. There should be no issues with the app as of this morning.

We got some events to tell you about coming up, including Lollapalooza!

Other
Well, SiriusXM got mentioned in a recent episode of Jeopardy! on Tuesday of this week. The category was Sirius-ly Dedicated and Ken Jennings mentions that they’re all artists with channels devoted to them on SiriusXM.
$200 - You may be right, I may be this man who periodically gets his own channel; in 2022, his "52nd Street" got played track by track.
What is Billy Joel? (The Billy Joel Channel on SiriusXM, which comes back and goes out at various times. As of this newsletter, its not available)
$400 - The music of this late, great Heartbreaker leader who also traveled as Charlie T. Wilbury Jr. gets its own channel.
What is Tom Petty? (He actually has two channels… Tom Petty Radio on Channel 31 and Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure on Channel 711; online only)
$600 - You don't need a miracle to listen to Jerry, Bob, Phil, Bill & Mickey of this jam band... you can just dial up their channel, man.
What is The Grateful Dead? (The Grateful Dead Channel on Channel 23)
$800 - This icon who can "Prove It All Night" has some "Glory Days" on his dedicated channel.
What is “The Boss”, Bruce Springsteen? (E Street Radio on Channel 20)
$1,000 - "What Would You Say" if I told you this man, seen here along with his band, had their own channel, or have I said "Too Much"?
What is Dave Matthews? (Dave Matthews Band Radio on Channel 30; the only answer the contestants didn’t get)
That’s it. I told you it will be a lot of big news this week and boy did SiriusXM deliver this week.
